Privacy policy

We only collect what we need to get back to you, register you for Shabbat and receive your donation. This page explains what we collect, why, who else sees it, and how long we keep it.

Who we are

Chabad House Siargao, General Luna, Siargao, Philippines. For any question about your data: chabadsiargao@gmail.com, or on WhatsApp.

Our website and management system run on Lamplighter, software for Chabad houses, which holds the data on our behalf. Lamplighter's privacy policy

When you write to us on the site

Your name, phone or email, and your message, so we can get back to you. Your message is saved in the Chabad House system, on a contact card that we open for you or update. We get a notification on our phone with your name and the start of your message.

We do not store your IP address. We keep only a hashed version of it, to block mass submissions.

When you register for Shabbat or a holiday

Your name, email, WhatsApp or phone number, the tickets you choose for each meal, how many vegetarian or vegan meals you need, and anything you write in the note. If you add a donation to your registration, we keep the amount too. We use all this to prepare the meal and to send you a confirmation and a reminder. Card payments go through Stripe, and your card details never reach us.

We also note whether you reached the registration page from our website or from another link, and nothing else about where you came from. From your IP address we keep only a hashed version, to limit repeated registrations from one address.

Allergies and special meals

If you choose an adapted meal, we only record that you chose one. You tell us what you need, for example celiac or an allergy, on WhatsApp or in the note. We use it only to prepare your meal, so please share just what we need for that.

The note is kept with your registration. To answer you quickly, Claude, an AI system made by Anthropic, drafts a suggested reply to your note. The rabbi reads it and sends the reply himself. This information is not deleted automatically after the meal. You can ask us to delete it at any time.

When you donate

Your name, email and amount. We email you an acknowledgment of your donation. Donations in US dollars go through Stripe. Donations in shekels go through Kesher, and you enter your details on Kesher's page. Your card details never reach us.

For donations through Stripe we also note whether you came from our website or from another link, and keep only a hashed version of your IP address.

Email

Confirmations and updates are sent through the email service Resend. If you registered or donated, we send you an update from time to time, usually on Saturday night or Sunday. Every update has an unsubscribe link. In update emails we record whether the email was opened and which links were clicked, so we know what interests you.

WhatsApp

After you register, we send you a confirmation on WhatsApp, and a reminder on the morning of the event. These messages go out automatically from the Chabad House number, through Meta's WhatsApp Business service. They include your first name, the event, its date or time, and the meals you booked. Nothing is sent on Shabbat or holidays. To stop them, reply STOP.

Messages you send to our number, and our replies, are saved in the Chabad House system together with your phone number. We can also see whether our messages were delivered and read. Common questions get an automatic reply. To pick the right one, the text of your message is sent to Claude, an AI system made by Anthropic.

Cookies

The website itself sets no cookies and uses no analytics or advertising tools.

When you reach the registration or donation page from our website, it stores one cookie for two hours, only to keep the site's design when you come back from payment. If you switch language on those pages, a cookie remembers your choice for a year. The registration page also remembers the event you picked, in that browser tab only, until you close it. The Stripe and Kesher payment pages set cookies of their own.

Who else receives your data

Only the providers that run the system for us:

  • Lamplighter: the system
  • Vercel: website hosting
  • Supabase: the database and images, on servers in Seoul, South Korea
  • Stripe and Kesher: payments
  • Resend: email
  • Meta: WhatsApp messages
  • Anthropic: drafting replies to WhatsApp messages and registration notes
  • Google: the Chabad House contact list. The name, phone and email of people who registered or visited in the last 60 days, and of donors, are copied there. Notifications to our phone also go through Google.

We do not sell data or share it for advertising.

How long we keep your data

We keep your data until you explicitly ask us to delete it. When you do, we delete your record, your registrations and your notes, and remove you from our Google contacts. Donation records stay, without your name or email, for our accounts. Stripe and Kesher keep payment details under their own rules.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your data. Write to chabadsiargao@gmail.com or message us on WhatsApp, and we will reply within 30 days. To stop WhatsApp messages from us, reply STOP.

Links to WhatsApp, Instagram, places to stay and maps, and the Stripe and Kesher payment pages, lead to sites with their own privacy policies.
